What is Primary Prevention?

Where is the effort of PreventionWORKS focused?

BEFORE the abuse occurs.

Primary Family Violence Prevention seeks to reduce domestic violence, child abuse, and other abuses before they happen by creating conditions that make violence less likely to occur.

Primary prevention addresses individual and family-level factors that reduce risk of violence – a student connected to school and involvement in pro-social activities or a family learning parenting skills decrease the probability that abuse will occur.
